Texas Hold'em

Two hole cards, five community cards, and the betting structure most UK players learn first. No-Limit tables let you bet any amount up to your full stack on any street, while Fixed-Limit and Pot-Limit versions cap how much you can wager.

7Gear runs Hold'em from £0.01/£0.02 micro-stakes up to £5/£10, across both six-max and full-ring tables. I found the deepest player pools between 7pm and 11pm on weekday evenings, with weekend afternoons running thinner.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Omaha deals four hole cards instead of two, and you must use exactly two of them with three community cards to build your hand. The extra cards produce stronger average holdings, which pushes the betting further and rewards you for understanding equity over raw card strength.

PLO tables at 7Gear run thinner than Hold'em outside peak hours, but £1/£2 and £2/£5 stakes stayed active most evenings I checked. Six-max is the default table size, and I didn't find a full-ring PLO option during testing.

Seven-Card Stud

Stud drops community cards entirely. Each player receives seven cards across five betting rounds, three face-down and four face-up, and builds the best five-card hand from what's dealt.

7Gear schedules Stud tournaments twice a week instead of running permanent cash tables, since the format draws a smaller but loyal following among players who learned poker before Hold'em took over.

Razz

Razz flips Stud's scoring: the lowest hand wins, and straights or flushes don't count against you. Aces play low, so A-2-3-4-5 beats every other hand in the deck.

You'll find Razz in mixed-game tournament formats at 7Gear rather than as a standalone cash game. Try it once for the strategy shift alone, even if you never make it a habit.

Five-Card Draw

The simplest variant on this list. Each player gets five private cards, discards and redraws once, then bets. No community cards, no multiple streets.

7Gear keeps a handful of low-stakes Five-Card Draw tables running if you want a slower pace than Hold'em offers. I found one or two tables active most nights, never more.

Short Deck Hold'em

Also called 6+ Hold'em, this format removes 2s through 5s from the deck, leaving 36 cards in play. Flushes beat full houses under standard Short Deck rules, since the smaller deck makes flushes harder to hit.

7Gear runs Short Deck at higher stakes than most other variants, starting around £5/£10, and the format has drawn a following among fans of televised high-stakes cash games.

Start at the Lowest Stakes Tables

Micro-stakes tables at 7Gear cost as little as a penny per big blind, and the skill gap between you and your opponents stays widest here while you learn the software's betting interface and hand history tools. Move up once you've posted a winning record over a decent sample size, not after one good session.

Use the Table Filters Before You Sit Down

7Gear's lobby lets you sort tables by average pot size and players per flop, both of which tell you more about a table's difficulty than the stakes alone. A table with a high average pot and a loose players-per-flop stat pays more per hour than a tight, low-variance table at the same stakes.
